Acton
Carnival 2004 is taking place on Saturday 17th July. The theme
for this year is 'Journey', and is a celebration of the life of
Randolph Baptiste of Stardust Mas and Pan. At the last count,
30 groups are taking to the streets of Acton, in a spectacle of
colour, costume, music and dance. The Parade leaves Woodlands
Park at 1pm, travelling down Crown Street, East into the Uxbridge
Road, North at Market Place, then East through Churchfield Road,
entering Acton Park beside Acton Central Station. Those taking
part in the Carnival Parade represent the rich cultural mix of
Acton, and includes Caribbean, Chinese, African, European and
South American groups. There is also representation from local
arts, children, youth and community organisations. Acton Carnival
is the highlight of Acton's calendar: Don't miss it!
The
Acton Park Festival continues the festivities throughout the afternoon
and into the evening. Also on the 17th July, between 1 and 8 pm
Acton Park is transformed into a space of live music, with a main
and acoustic stage this year, dance performance, stalls, food,
sound systems, sports, arts, mini-fun fair and activities for
all the family. The Festival has something for everyone, and if
last year is anything to go by, attracting some 5,000 visitors,
Acton celebrates in style.
